For those of you who know me well, you’ll know that over the past few months i’ve been gushing over brand new girls magazine CLARITY. It’s basically a handbag sized life manual full of great faith filled articles, top tips, interviews and more aimed specifically at girls aged 16-35. The mag has a Christian theme, and covers somewhat taboo subjects with an aim to inspire honesty and vulnerability in a non-judgemental manner.

I caught up with Taylor Satchell-Reid (pictured left) the editor and creator of this exciting new magazine to find out what makes her tick and her future dreams and plans.

LJ: Taylor, can you introduce yourself to the readers?

“So I was born and brought up in Rugby, a Midlands town. I’m 22 years young and love to write, speak and meet new people. When I’m not travelling and doing all of that, I’m drowning in fruit tea or buried in blankets! Especially now it’s winter! But ultimately I’m just passionate about seeing people live life to the full!

LJ:  As I mentioned above, I am a fan of Clarity magazine, can you tell us where the idea came from?

“Thank you! I actually studied Magazine Journalism but never expected to launch my own magazine. What I actually wanted to do was move to London and work for Men’s Health or a ‘foodie’ mag. I’d done a few internships and just loved the lifestyle! However, one Assignment, during our second year, required us to pinpoint a gap in the market and create a magazine to fill the gap. This is where the idea of a magazine that builds women up and compliments faith came from! From that point on, my degree wasn’t the focus – it was seeing a magazine of this nature created to challenge and change the industry!

LJ: What do you hope to achieve through the magazine?

“There are two goals written on the hearts of our team: The first is to guide, encourage and nurture women on their walk through a pretty interesting stage of life. To talk about the taboo, the sensitive, and the everyday! The second is Salvation. My heart has always been to show those who think church is a cold, dying entity that Christians are still alive and kicking. To show that God is relevant, speaking and loving each and every woman our magazine reaches!”

LJ: Being the editor of a brand new magazine must be hard work, what do you do to relax?

“Relax?? What’s that!? No it can be really tough, but I’m learning it’s OK and really important to give myself down time. I LOVE food – cooking and eating healthy and tasty creations is how I tend to unwind! Sometimes it’s just grabbing a blanket and bulk watching a series – or (confession time) I’m loving these colouring books for a good ‘mind unwind’ session!”

LJ: what advice would you give to anyone out there who has a big dream like you?

“Just make it happen! I believe that if God has truly placed something in your heart, then everything is already there to achieve it. Find people who share your heart. Remind yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing, it will keep you going. And just go for it! It’s only our doubts and excuses that delay us. I actually had a six year plan for Clarity, and God fast-forwarded it to a one year whirlwind! Be open to his sovereignty. It’s important to keep your eyes open to opportunities, to seek advice from trusted friends and to remain positive when doors close. The final thing is to have faith. With Clarity, I started without a salary, without a team and without a fixed address. But I believe that God caused people to donate, team members to come, people to order the mag, and we’re only just beginning. Dream big guys – and then even bigger!”
